Snow continues to fall and accumulate from central Saratoga county to points north this afternoon. South of that area there is a mix of rain and snow or just plain rain falling. Now, that being said, with colder air leaking in on northerly winds, we will begin to see a change in the plain rain to what will likely be freezing rain for a time later this afternoon and, what could be, during the evening commute. As the cold air at the surface thickens, that freezing rain will transition into sleet, and then as the entire column of air cools enough, to all snow later this evening. The quicker this transition takes place, the less ice and more snow will add up as it will persist into the overnight hours. Temperatures will plummet overnight into the single digits and lower teens by tomorrow morning with wind gusts to 40 mph. With the all of the rain many of have picked up and then the rapid drop in temperatures, there may be some flash freezing that takes place and black ice on the roads as well. Your best bet for tonight is, if you don't ABSOLUTELY have to go somewhere for an emergency or work, just stay home.
Snow will gradually wind down early tomorrow as the storm lifts out with a return to some sun in the afternoon. It will be very windy and much colder through the day. Highs will only be in the teens.
Have a great day!
