Feeling blue - go shopping.
That's the mantra of those who recommend retail therapy.
But that can be dangerous as researchers find, the more down in the dumps you feel the more likely you are to spend more than you would if your world was sunny.
Why? A recent study finds sadness leads to self centered thinking and that's why the wallet opens. If nothing else, shopping redirects your case of the blues.
But in these fiscally dicey times, overspending can lead to even more woes.
So how to indulge, if you must and not bust your budget? Go second hand.
A fancy dress in the Salvation Army store I pass every day caught my eye this morning - and you've got to check out the selection at the new consignment store Clothes Mentor that just opened in Albany. There are a number of consigment shops in town. (note to entrepreneurs - where are the guy consignment stores?)
Which reminds me - cull your clothing and consider selling the stuff you haven't worn in a year - bound to put a little green in your wallet for your retail therapy session.
Now, I'm not advocating retail therapy - just recognizing it happens ... my suggestion if NO shopping is what your budget needs .. call a friend to complain. Just don't get together to bake cookies .. lol . . |
