RPI student burned in lab fire

TROY - An RPI student suffered burns and a number of Troy firefighters were evaluated after a two-alarm fire on the campus of RPI Monday night, authorities said.

A Rensselaer County 911 dispatcher says a call came in around 6 p.m. Monday for a fire at the RPI Science Center on the third floor. He said after extinguishing the blaze, firefighters then went to the hospital for evaluation.

"A Rensselaer Public Safety Officer was the first on the scene and was able to interview the student involved," a spokesperson for RPI said in a statement. "The individual sustained burns on her hands and was taken to Samaritan Hospital."

The college's public safety department is conducting an investigation.
