Court refuses to block orders as senators argue

ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) - An appeals court is refusing to block a judge's Monday order that the divided state senators convene jointly in compliance with Gov. David Paterson's call for special sessions.

Still fighting over who's in control, New York's senators adjourned this morning only minutes after a Republican-led faction joined Democrats already in the chamber for a special session called by Paterson.

Paterson has said he'll keep senators in Albany until they do their necessary work.

A five-judge appellate division panel ruled late this afternoon on the Republicans' efforts to block a judge's order that they have to attend sessions called by the governor. An appeals court judge refused to stay that order this morning, leading to the brief session.
