The Alzheimer's Explosion

There's a new study out http://www.newswise.com/articles/view/553915/?sc=dwtr;xy=5017143 looking at sophisticated imaging equipment and if it can help in predicting  development of the disease.

The figures suggest that by 2050, 30 million Americans will be diagnosed with Alzheimer's.

While predictions make good numbers for headlines, the bigger issue is, how will those predictions be used to improve services: that's really the key. And will those numbers further spark research into prevention and treatment. Currently the only drugs help patients maintain function longer .. patients who can tolerate the g.i. problems many of these drugs bring.

If you have a family member who's been diagnosed with Alzheimer's remember, it's not only about them. YOU need a support system because if you run down, you'll be no use to them, and they so dearly need your support.
