Take a drive on the mellow side

Had the good fortune this morning to drive into work from Salem, NY .. I'm doing a show at the Fort Salem Theater this weekend (www.fortsalemtheater.com) But what this post is really about is taking the time to travel some back roads.

Normally I'm trucking right along at or, yes, a bit above, the speed limit. Yes, I enjoy the sites as the sun is setting but I'm always wishing I could take the time to travel these roads earlier in the day - and take the time to stop at the farm stands. Well, this morning I got to see the sites but still didn't have time to stop .. but will make the effort before the snow flies ..

As you travel route 40 through Easton, if you're not familiar with that territory, you'll pass verdant corn fields - stables - barns - lazy cows and proud horses. As the morning unfolds you see folks, not hoisting cardboard cups of coffee but riding the mower, trimming the weeds -

In Greenwich - the work crew of locals was out early - weeding the flower beds of the public library. Dang, I wish I had the time to sit in the little park adjacent to Mowry Park and just listen to the water in the stone fountain.

If you travel route 29 into Schylerville you've got to make time to relax along the water front.

Yes, this is a rambling post .. like the ride I'd like to take one Sunday afternoon when I have no appointments. I want to sample the ice cream from different stands ( but saving room for the Ice Cream Man) .. I want to hear the water at all the different shorelines .. savor the site of the flox, in full bloom.

Take some time . .take a drive .. connect with mother nature . .connect with loved ones. I'm sure that's among the tenants of good health.

And if you've made this drive .. or another you'd like to share .. please do ..
