Mall security guards converged on protesters with the New York Liberty Council after the demonstrators started unveiling their signs on mall property. The protesters moved to public property nearby, standing on three corners of the intersection of Wolf Road and Central Ave. The honks and shouts made it look more like New York City during rush hour than Colonie on a Saturday morning. About a hundred people showed up to protest the idea of government-run health care. Many feared Congress would take away the plans they already have and like. As NewsChannel 13's Jessica Layton reported, there's not just one health care bill moving through Congress. Several bills are circulating through the House of Representatives and the U.S. Senate. So, the debate is far from over in Washington. Lawmakers have asked supporters on both sides to make sure they're spreading facts, not fear. In Colonie, the heated debate sparked passion, and sometimes name-calling. The New York Liberty Council called the event a success.
