RPI, Union get Friday night wins

In a busy Friday night of local hockey, the Capital Region's two ECAC teams picked up victories, though the pro teams split.

In Schenectady, Union was led by Freshman forward Wayne Simpson, who scored his first career goal, leading the Dutchmen to a 4-2 win over AIC at Messa Rink.

Over in Troy, Freshman Brandon Pirri had two goals, including the game winner in overtime, to lead RPI over Sacred Heart 4-3 at Houston Field House.

Up the Northway, David Laliberte had a goal and two assists and Jon Matsumoto added a goal and one assist to lead the Adirondack Phantoms to a 3-2 win over the Hartford Wolf Pack Friday night in front of 4,062 fans at the Glens Falls Civic Center.

The Phantoms head down the Northway Saturday, to meet their rivals, the Albany River Rats.  Albany was the only local hockey team to fall Friday, losing 2-1 to Rochester at the Times-Union Center.
