Fire on Lexington Avenue in Albany

ALBANY -- Fire crews battled a two-alarm fire at 40, 42 and 44 Lexington Avenue this morning around 5:45AM.

Battalion Chief Andrew Nolan says the call came in for heavy fire from 42 Lexington and it quickly spread to adjoining buildings on either side. Heavy smoke was pouring from all the windows at 42 Lexington. Numbers 40 and 44 were vacant.

Fire spread from 42, up the walls of the three-story building to the roof and to each building, "engulfing both floors," Nolan said. "It was hard to get at it."

At least one family was living at 42 Lexington but they got out safely. No one was injured. A cause has not yet been determined.
