Posted at: 11/01/2009 11:12 AM Tricks and Treats for Halloween nightThe sounds of spooky organ music and scary stories filled St. Paul's Church in Troy on Saturday. "Phantoms and Fugues" offered a safe and family-friendly Halloween celebration for boy and "ghouls" of all ages. Children showed off their costumes while members of the American Guild of Organists and students set the mood with haunting classics. The church also collected donations for local food pantries. In Menands, Trick-or-Treaters hit the sidewalks, going house-to-house looking for the sweet stuff. But only the bravest dared visit a haunted house on Brookside Avenue, complete with lights, decorations and costumed players of its own. In Albany, there was a party on Quail Street where costumes were left home. The Victory Church hosted a Halloween alternative, "Safe Night Out: No Tricks, Just Treats." Young people had a high-energy, fun-filled safe night with singing, dancing, skits and trips to the money machine. Every kid who showed up took home a two-pound goodie bag filled with candy. Finally, Governor Paterson issued this statement as kids came to the Executive Mansion. Lawmakers beware! “Michelle and I would like to thank the neighborhood children for visiting the Executive Mansion to trick-or-treat and celebrate Halloween. This home belongs to the people of New York State and it was our pleasure to share it with so many costumed guests today. To be clear, all the children who stopped by got treats – not tricks. The tricks I’ll leave to any legislator who may stop by, but I warn them – I’m dressed as Jason and I’m serious about cutting the deficit. The First Lady and I wish everyone a happy and safe Halloween.”
