Volunteers spent part of their Saturday morning packing boxes with golf balls, clubs and bags to ship to Afghanistan. They got the idea from Anita Waters, whose husband Tim is serving in the Army Reserve in the Middle East. Tim told her that the soldiers use the balls to hit into potential mine fields. Since first reaching out for help, Waters has received hundreds of donations to ship to soldiers overseas. "An hour after I sent out my initial e-mail, there was a neighbor with a bag of balls on my front porch," Anita Waters said. "So the response has been tremendous and I can't thank everybody enough and I'm sure that Tim and his buddies are going to have a blast with all this stuff that everyone is sending."Waters got help from "Adopt-a-Soldier" to pack and ship the gear. Several stores and courses pitched in with equipment. Waters' husband is due back for a visit in February.
