Sixth through eighth graders and their families were invited for a couple of hours of free bowling at Uncle Sam Lanes on 6th Avenue in Troy. It was put on by Troy's Police Athletic League, which is marking its one-year anniversary, a revival of a program that had been dormant for years. Officers called it an opportunity to give young people an idea of safe after-school activities. They're saying that they don't have anything to do so we're offering the opportunity for them to get out and see the police and community leaders in a different light," said PAL director Aaron Collington. Troy's PAL is getting strong support from both the Troy and Lansingburgh Boys and Girls Clubs, as well as churches and elected officials. On Sunday, three area lanes are taking part in the largest single-day bowling event in the area to aid MDA. Events are being held at Sunset Lanes in Albany from 1:00PM - 3:30PM Boulevard Bowl in Schenectady from 1:00PM - 3:30PM, and Uncle Sam Lanes in Troy from noon - 4:00PM.
