Posted at: 11/01/2009 2:46 PM Bruno trial starts Monday
Bruno was the top power broker in New York State government for more than a decade and many projects around the Capital Region are named for him or has direct influence by money he earmarked for the area. Federal prosecutors accuse Bruno of using his influence for personal gains -- collecting $3.2 million in commissions and gifts over 13 years without poperly disclosing it. In return for using his, prosecutors say a dozen labor unions and three private businessmen benefitted. Bruno pleaded not guilty and said the eight-count indictment is politically motivated. If convicted, the former boxer faces prison time. The trial is expected to last several weeks.
