Fire destroys town's main buildings

ASHLAND -- The town hall and fire department of the Greene County town of Ashland burned to the ground Sunday morning.

The Greene County Sheriff's Department says the call came in at 5:55 a.m. It started in the town's offices, which share the building with the fire department.

The county's fire investigation team, along with the town supervisor and Council have been on the scene for much of the day. Ashland has an agreement now with Windham and Prattsville fire departments to cover the town's fire calls.

"We're still going to continue. We have a secondary ambulance that we can take out. So we can still cover our own calls, take care of ourselves," said Diane Cross.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
