Posted at: 02/26/2010 8:59 PM Economic survival guide: phone "apps" that save you moneyThere’s no need to clip coupons these days, if you've got a high-tech phone. Many high technology phones have devices that claim to get you the best price for products and gas. But the question is: do they work? We have put these money saving applications, or “apps,” to the test, to find out if they really do the job. For example, we filled up our gas tank at a random gas station in the area, wondering if we got the best price per gallon. We found out after typing our zip code in to the application “Gas Buddy” that we could have saved 5 cents per gallon just by driving down the road. High tech phones are taking off, and they come with the capability of downloading apps, many of which are designed to save you money. One app, “red lazer,” allows you to scan your item in a store such as Target, to see what prices other stores offer for the same product. There is also an app called "Mobiqpons," which finds coupons depending on your location. This world of applications brings about a new era for shoppers who want a deal. Once you figure out how today's phone apps work, you are good to go.
