BALLSTON SPA – Many farmers are still trying to recover from the devastation of Tropical Storm Irene. Some lost everything, including the ability to feed their animals through the winter. For those farmers, help is on the way thanks to the generosity of other local farmers.

Volunteers came together Saturday to load up hundreds of bales of hay as part of a donation drive sponsored by the Cornell Cooperative Extension of Saratoga County.

The event began with an email plea for extra hay. Soon, many local farmers dropped off what they could to help the flood victims. The hay will be used to feed horses and cows throughout the winter and spring.

Monetary donations are also being accepted. Checks can be sent to the Schoharie County Community Action Program Inc., 795 East Main St., Suite 5, Cobleskill, NY 12043-1436. Make a notation that the donation is for farmers.
