TROY-  A Troy police officer was arrested by New York City police Friday morning. Fifty-three-year-old Sgt. Patrick Rosney, a 26 veteran from Rensselaer, is accused of attempted dissemination of indecent materials to a minor.

Troy Police Chief John Tedesco held a news conference Friday. The police chief was tight-lipped about the situation but said that the officer had inappropriate conversations online with a person who he thought was a 14-year-old girl.

He is suspended with no pay, was relieved of his weapon and also accused of endangering the welfare of child.

Members of a vice squad from Queens came to arrest Rosney Friday morning around 9:30 a.m. Members from the vice squad posed as an underage girl online and Rosney is accused of having conversations with them that were sexual in nature.

He was arrested in uniform and was taken down to Queens where he will be arraigned. NewsChannel 13 was told that Rosney is married and has two children.
