ALBANY - Albany County residents without dental insurance can now reduce their costs for tooth care,
139 dentists in Albany County have agreed to reduce the rate they charge patients without insurance by about 30 per cent.
To be eligible, patients need to purchase a dental network card that costs $36.50 yearly for individuals and $52 for families.
There are no income restrictions for the program.
While announcing the program, Albany County Legislative Chairman Shawn Morse said a lot of people put off regular dental visits because of cost concerns. "So what they need now are root canals and other types of major surgery. With this program, you're going to save over 200 dollars" compared to typical charges for patients without dental insurance.
Information about the dental card program should soon be available in brochures at many dentists offices in Albany County as well as on the county's website.
