For the first time in decades, Primary Day is Tuesday, June 26th, for U.S. House and Senate races. There are three races to pay attention to for capital region residents.
In the U.S. Senate, three republicans, Wendy Long, Bob Turner and George Maragos, are opposing democrat Kirsten Gillibrand.
In the 19th congressional district, democrats Julian Schreibman and Joel Tyner are facing off. The winner will challenge republican Chris Gibson, the incumbent in the 20th district. But, because of redistricting, he's now running in the 19th congressional district. Locally, that covers all or parts of Rensselaer, Montgomery, Schoharie, Greene and Columbia counties.
In the 21st congressional district, two republicans are facing off. This district locally covers all or parts of Warren, Washington, Saratoga and Fulton counties. The winner will run against democrat Bill Owens, the incumbent in the 23rd congressional district, but, because of redistricting, he's now running in the 21st district.
