ALBANY - The Aqua Ducks packed with customers for a final tour in Albany Sunday. All seats were sold out, with those on board feeling lucky they get to be a part of the last trip of what had become an Albany institution.
The ducks are headed to Key West, Florida, according to Bob Wolfgang, who kicked off the business in 2004, after retiring as a Police Chief in Albany. Wolfgang says he and his partners had no choice but to sell the business. He says some of the things he had hoped would come to fruition never did; like the convention center that would have brought more tourism to downtown Albany. Also, he says the economy didn't help.
Now Wolfgang, and more than forty employees who made the 90-minute tour on land and in the Hudson River in the amphibious craft possible, will have to find something else to do.
the employees say now it seems everyone's calling -- wishing they had taken a tour.
For Michael McCarthy, who just moved here from Jacksonville North Carolina, this was his first chance to see Albany and he's glad he got to do it on the Aqua Duck.
