Governor Cuomo announced today that the expansion of the state's DNA databank is now in effect.

The new law requires anyone convicted of a felony or misdemeanor to provide a sample of their DNA.

Supporters say this will help solve more crimes and exonerate anyone who was wrongfully convicted.

New York is the first state in the nation to expand its DNA databank so dramatically.
