Albany Mayor Jerry Jennings is responding to a recent claim that people are afraid to come to Downtown Albany.

The comment was made to the Times Union by Ralph Spillenger, owner of Jillian’s and the Bayou Café on North Pearl Street.

Spillenger is closing Jillian’s, he says because of a lack of business.

He said the crowd has also become more dangerous.

Jennings says there is constant police presence on the weekends and that bar owners need to take some action, too.

Jillian's final night is this Saturday.

It's been a North Pearl Street staple since 1999.
