QUEENSBURY - We're learning more about the love-triangle shootout that left one person dead and two people injured.

We now know that the man who was shot and killed, Ralph Runnalls, and the woman who was shot and injured were recently married.

Police say Jackie Kegan, was at the center of a love triangle involving  two men. Kegan had a child with 55-year-old Paul Wells 18-years ago and lived with Wells for many of those years.

We've that Kegan married 67-year old Ralph Runnalls of Fort Ann recently and she was living with him.

Exactly why Kegan was at Wells' home deep in the woods off Bay Road Monday is unclear.

"She had come over there to meet with the family, with the father and the son. But she hadn't been living there within the last couple of weeks,” says Warren County Sheriff, Bud York.

The way police describe it, Runnalls came to the home with a 357 Magnum and forced his way. They say he fired three shots in total. One hit Wells and one hit Kegan.

Wells used two handguns to return fire, firing as many as 19 shots, hitting Runnalls several times, including twice in the head.

“We've got several shots to the body. The torso and the head. Several. Hopefully we'll find out from Wells. You've got to understand there's probably a lot of panic in the house. Obviously there was a lot of missed shots,” says Sheriff York.

According to the autopsy, Runnalls cause of death was the two gun shots to the head.

Police say neither man had a permit for the guns.

There was also a shotgun found at the scene, investigators are saying tonight that they first thought that was used, but have since learned it was not. Wells is out of the hospital. Kegan is at Albany Medical Center.
