The 51 Senate District contains parts of Ulster, Delaware, Schoharie, Otsego, Cortland, Tompkins, Herkimer, and Cayuga Counties.

Democrat

·Howard D. Leib In addition to running on the Democratic ticket, Leib is running on the Working Families Party ticket.

Republican

·James L. Seward - Incumbent Seward first assumed office in 1987. In addition to running on the Republican ticket, Seward is running on the Conservative Party and Independence Party of New York State tickets.
