COLONIE - One of the northbound lanes of the area's main north-south interstate highway has reopened, but the other two remain closed because of delays at a bridge renovation project.

The state Department of Transportation says the left lane on the bridge carrying Interstate 87, the Adirondack Northway, over the Mohawk river reopened around noon Monday. The center and right lanes on Thaddeus Kosciuszko  Bridge have been closed since before 6 a.m.

DOT officials say the closure was caused by delays in securing the old bridge deck with steel plates. There's no indication when the other lanes would reopen.

Northbound traffic is being diverted off the highway to nearby Route 9.

A $29 million project to replace the bridge's decking began this past weekend on the span's northbound side.
