ALBANY - David Soares secured a third term as Albany County district attorney Thursday, with a victory over Democratic challenger Lee Kindlon.

Soares earned 57 percent of the vote compared to 40 percent for Kindlon.

They were only two candidates in the race. So the primary determined would win the job.

Soares first became district attorney after defeating incumbent Paul Clyne in 2004.

Preliminary results show DA Soares leading with 11,235 to Kindlon's 7,721 with 74 percent of precincts reporting.
