Fahy wins six-way Democratic primary in 109th A.D.

ALBANY - Former Albany School Board President Patricia Fahy scored a decisive and historic victory in Thursday night's six-way democratic primary in the 109th Assembly District, which will likely make her the first woman to represent the Capital Region in the state assembly.
Fahy finished with 37 percent of the vote. Her closest competitor, Albany Common Council member Frank Commisso, Jr., had 18 percent.
Former Albany County Executive Jim Coyne finished far back with less than 10 percent of the vote.
Fahy says people power made the difference and she believes her simple message of jobs and education resonated with the voters.
She proudly boasts of being a first generation American who has been able to live the American dream thanks to hard working parents and an accessible public education system.
"I couldn't be more proud and more humbled that I'll be filling (Jack) McEneny's shoes," she said, during her victory celebration. "He has left a legacy of advocacy and that's what I hope to build upon."
Fahy will square off against Republican Ted Danz in November's general election in a district that has an overwhelming enrollment advantage for the democrats.
