VIDEO: Education Forum highlights value of school collaborations

APALBANY - NewsChannel13 held an Education Forum on Sept. 24 in cooperation with SEFCU as part of Education Nation.

The forum was held at SEFCU headquarters in Albany.

This year the topic was on the value of school collaborations. The panel included representatives from the College of Saint Rose, Hudson Valley Community College and the University at Albany.

Early High School College

Gives high school juniors and seniors the opportunity to get college experience, earn college credits and learn about 21st century jobs to better prepare for life after high school

Online college for high school students

High school students who want to take part in early college opportunities but who cannot travel to a college campus can get the experience from home or from their high school

Eureka Program

The College of Nanoscale Science and Engineering partners with Girls Inc and SEFCU to help get more girls interested in STEM fields (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics). It’s the first program of its kind in the nation.

Response to Intervention

A collaborative program for schools to consider if they can no longer afford specialists for students.

Collaborations for students with disabilities

The College of St Rose partners with Living Resources to help high school students with disabilities prepare for life after graduation.

Collaborating with NASA

A teacher from Galway Central School shares how they were able to partner with NASA to give students a special high tech after school opportunity and lets fellow teachers know how they too can make use of all that NASA has to offer.

Newsroom Classroom

A teacher from the North Colonie School District talks about taking part in Elaine Houston’s Newsroom Classroom. It’s a project that allows classes in the Capital Region to Skype with NewsChannel 13 Education Reporter, Elaine Houston. She talks with them about how a television news cast comes together.

Collaborations for kids who may not be college bound

Opportunities for high school students who may not be planning to go to college.
