One of the biggest election contests this year may not be as close as many people expected.
A Siena research poll released today has Congressman Chris Gibson leading his Democratic challenger by 16 points.
If you're asking yourself just who is Congressman Chris Gibson's opponent you've asked one of the biggest question in the contest.
That lack of name recognition for democrat Julian Schriebman is definitely doing the challenger no favors.
Julian Schreibman was campaigning on Main Street in Cooperstown this afternoon.
In true candidate fashion, he said he was not concerned by the Siena poll that gives Gibson 52% of the vote, Schreibman 36%.
Gibson was finishing up in Washington today and not available until his expected return to Albany just about now. In a statement he said he was encouraged by today's poll, focusing on service, putting upstate first and bipartisan solutions.
Schreibman and other critics complain there have been no solutions coming out of the House.
No farm bill, no agreement on a jobs bill or other important business, but the old saw in politics is that you can't beat someone with no one.
