ROTTERDAM JUNCTION - This story gives true meaning to the phrase 'what goes around comes around', in a positive way. Some unexpected help has arrived for Hurricane Irene victims.
Mike Blair got the card last week, and did not expect to find a check for $1,000 inside. Before Irene, Blair, and his group of volunteers from St. Ambrose Church in Latham, traveled to Mississippi several times a year to help Hurricane Katrina victims. When Irene hit, priorities changed. This past year, the group stayed local, to help people struggling in the capital region.
Since they weren't able to go down south, their friends in Mississippi sent some help up north. The money will go into the church's fund, and Blair, a retired police sergeant, who's been volunteering for more than 15 years, will use it to help rebuild homes in The Junction.
"Now it's their turn, now they're reaching out to us. But, they never believed we would have a problem, ya'll don't have hurricanes is how they would put it."
