It's been a late night in the U.S. Senate. Voting began just after midnight, on a stopgap measure to fund federal programs and avoid a government shutdown. It passed.

A bill to cut off aid to Pakistan, Libya, and Egypt was voted down. And a joint resolution to push for pressure against Iran and a no containment policy passed 90 to 1.

The senators are now in recess until November.
