ALBANY - There should be help coming for drivers trying to cross the Twin Bridges on Sunday afternoons.
After personally experiencing the long delays caused by road construction, the governor has announced a change in schedule.
One of the reasons Howard Stern supported George Pataki over Andrew Cuomo's father Mario was Pataki's sympathy for nighttime road reconstruction.
Almost two decades later, son Andrew is demonstrating an appreciation for that concept by trying to improve Northway bridge work.
Gov. Cuomo also announced the "Drivers First Initiative" Friday. It is an effort by the state Department of Transportation to keep delays to a minimum during highway and bridge construction.
The governor specifically mentioned work on the Twin Bridges that carry the Northway over the Mohawk River. Traffic has been limited to one lane in each direction on weekends, while repairs are made.
Starting this weekend, all four lanes will reopen at noon on Sunday, instead of early Monday morning.
