HUDSON FALLS - A blood stain on the pavement marks the spot where the nine year old girl struck by a car in the back parking of the Main Moon Chinese restaurant on Main Street in Hudson Falls.
Sergeant Scott Moulthrop of the Hudson Falls police tells us, "She had a lot of bruises, a lot of contusions. She was alert and talking to us."
Police say the driver 28 year old Yin Lee Chen was pulling into a parking spot Saturday afternoon as the young girl was running from a second floor apartment and down this staircase that spills right out into the parking lot. Police say she came out from behind parked and collided with Chen's car.
Sergeant Moulthrop told us. "She was also at full run when she collided with the vehicle. According to witnesses at the scene, she was in a dead sprint."
The girl, whose name was not released, was flown to Albany Medical Center in critical condition. She suffered internal damage, a broken leg, and a number of cuts and scrapes. Police say he condition improved since Saturday. She now listed as serious and is expected to recover. Police say this could have been a lot worse and that parents have to warn their children.
Sergeant Moulthrop warns, "Make kids are aware when leaving between parked vehicles in parking lots and roadways to make sure they're aware they're entering an area with moving traffic."
As for the driver, no charges have been filed. But police say the investigation is ongoing. They’re interviewing all witnesses before they determine if this was only an accident.
