EAST GREENBUSH - Money turns up missing from the East Greenbush fire department and now its chief is under investigation.

NewsChannel13 broke this story live at noon, and had now learned that the chief is no longer with the fire department, and this was two separate incidents.

A lawyer for the fire district is calling it an abuse of power.

It was a trip to New Jersey that led to the resignation of former East Greenbush fire chief Ed DiMartino, according to Bill Young -- the attorney representing the fire district.

Young says an East Greenbush resident spotted the truck assigned to the chief in New Jersey. After pulling easy pass information and a picture of the truck on the turnpike, there was no denying it.

East Greenbush fire district #3 is the taxpayer portion of the volunteer squad and it's separate from the fire company itself.

The fire company's president Jeff Tooker confirmed there's also an internal investigation into missing funds, which includes money raised from pizza dinners, bake sales and other fundraisers at the firehouse.

Sources tell NewsChannel13 that DiMartino allegedly paid his cable bill with money from the fire company.

Tooker had no other comment and says the exact amount is still unknown.

Police are not involved.

Newschannel13 knocked on Chief Dimartino's door in to get his side of the story. There was no answer.
