Local collection stations are set up for Sandy relief

In the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy, several locations in the Capital District have set up collection drives to aid in the relief effort for those suffering without food, power, or water downstate.

The Albany Ski & Snowboard Expo will accept donations to benefit the Red Cross from 10:00am-6:00pm Saturday, and 10:00am-4:00pm Sunday at the Empire State Plaza Convention Center. They plan to match up to $5,000 of the donations collected over the course of the expo.

The Guilderland Highway Department is collecting relief supplies on Saturday and Sunday from 9:00am-6:00pm at 6368 French's Mill Road in Guilderland Center. They are asking for the following supplies-

  • Water
  • Diapers
  • Canned food and canned milk
  • Juice boxes
  • Blankets, gloves and sweatshirts
  • Trash bags
  • Cereal and other dried foods

Saratoga County residents can make donations at the Hilton Garden Inn on South Broadway in Saratoga, or the Hampton Inn at 620 Plank Road in Clifton Park. The Saratoga Convention & Tourism Bureau asks that all donations be in by 1:00pm on Monday, November 5th, and are asking for the following items-

  • Non-parishable food
  • Bottled water
  • Blankets and towels
  • Toiletry items

Enlighten Yoga + Community Center at 37 Prospect Street, Amsterdam will be taking non-perishable food items, water, diapers, baby formula, batteries, and more until 5pm. Their number is 518-866-3621.

Broadalbin-Perth High School until 4pm (no items specified).

Coccadotts on Central Ave in Albany is accepting donations from now until Wednesday. They're asking for batteries (especially D), cleaning supplies, shovels, gloves, and non-perishable food items.
