Medal of Honor recipient honored

TROY - Peter Guenette died a hero in Vietnam, saving his comrades from near-certain death and this morning, the unveiling of a roadside plaque honoring this Medal of Honor recipient.
The City of Troy and Lansingburgh paid tribute Thursday morning, to this very young soldier who threw his body on a live grenade, saving at least three of his buddies from death or serious injury
Peter's two sisters, Margaret and Mary, and his brother Mike, were on hand this morning to unveil a state historic plaque at the entrance to Saint John's Cemetery, where this Medal of Honor recipient was buried in may of 1968.
He grew up in Lansinburgh and enlisted in the army, he served in the 101st airborne, right around the time he turned20-years-old.
He and his fellow soldiers were under heavy fire from the North Vietnamese when Specialist Fourth Class Peter Guenette saw the grenade land in their midst, He jumped on it saving everyone.
