Albany intersection to open after $18M rebuild

ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) - A key intersection near the University at Albany-SUNY is set to open Monday after an $18 million reconstruction project.
The state transportation department says they've wrapped up work at the intersection of Fuller Road and Washington Avenue Extension.
The goal was to reduce traffic congestion in the area where the College of Nanoscale Science and Engineering is growing quickly, with its Albany NanoTech Complex in the midst of a $366 million expansion.
Workers realigned Washington Avenue Extension to the north, put a roundabout where Fuller Road and County Road 156 meet, and built a bridge to divert 20,000 vehicles daily from the intersection.
The DOT says about 30,000 vehicles pass through the intersection each day.
