New regional laboratory aims to get students ready for the future

A new effort aims to make the Capital Region a model for getting young people ready for the future.
Globalfoundries has partnered with the Center for Economic Growth to launch a new regional laboratory.
The program includes more than 100 school districts.
The goal is to get them all on the same page when it comes to teaching science, math and engineering.
"Globalfoundries is playing a leading role and trying to be a good corporate citizen and seizing that window of opportunity while that light is shining on us and on the region to really collaborate with all the stakeholders--- parents, teachers, students, to really make a difference," said Mike Russo of Globalfoundries.
Area students showed off some of their inventions, such as robotic basketball players.
It was part of the program's kick-off today at the TEC-SMART Campus of Hudson Valley Community College.
