ALBANY - The former controller of a retirement home was sentenced to more than 3 years in prison Monday.

William Sorriento, 53, of Mechanicville stole the money from the Avila Retirement Community, which owned the Teresian House in Albany, where he worked as controller.

Prosecutors say he wrote checks to himself and used the money to gamble.

As part of his sentence Sorriento was also ordered to pay back the money he stole.
