Arrest made in brutal beating of a Schenectady teen

SCHENECTADY - An arrest has been made in the brutal beating of a Schenectady teen.

Police have charged 20-year-old Alexander Messina with several counts, including gang assault.

Messina is accused of jumping a 14-year-old boy Sunday morning, then beating him with a baseball bat.

It happened at the intersection of Congress and Sixth Avenue.

The alleged attack left the teen so badly injured he had to be put in a medically induced coma.

Messina is being held in the Schenectady County Jail.
