ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) - As the nation marks the 150th anniversary of the Civil War, many people are delving into their family history to learn more about ancestors who fought in America's bloodiest conflict.

One of the best sources of Civil War documents for New Yorkers is the State Library in Albany. The library is located in the Empire State Plaza in the same building that houses the State Museum and the New York State Archives.

Experts at the library tell the Times Union of Albany that they want the public to know what's available to professional and amateur researchers looking for Civil War information.

The state's vast collection of wartime records includes personal narratives, military rosters, regimental histories, pension lists, census information, maps and newspapers.
