ROTTERDAM - State police say two men were involved in a murder for hire plot.

Police say 41-year-old Mark Staake and 23-year-old Tanner Ruane, traveled to Vermont from New Mexico, with a plan to kill two people.

Ruane was arrested at a gas station in Rotterdam last Tuesday.

The second man, his uncle, was taken into custody near the border of Canada.

Authorities say they were hired by a man serving a life sentence for the murder of a 15-year-old girl in Barre, Vermont 12 years ago.

They say that man may now be linked to many disappearances around the country.
