CHESTER, N.Y. (AP) - Authorities say a Glens Falls man's son fired the shot that killed him while he hunted with his two sons in the Adirondacks last weekend.

The Warren County sheriff's office tells NesChannel 13's media partners at the Post-Star of Glens Falls that 53-year-old Terry Lavergne of Warrensburg died from a bullet fired by his son, 23-year-old James Lavergne of Glens Falls.

Police say Terry Lavergne's 22-year-old son was also hunting with them when the shooting occurred Saturday morning in the town of Chester. Authorities say the elder Lavergne was in brush when he was shot in the torso.

Police hadn't released the names of the men hunting with Terry Lavergne until Thursday.

Police say they don't plan to charge James Lavergne, but the district attorney could present the case to a grand jury.
