ALBANY - Gov. Cuomo signed legislation Wednesday that makes the unlicensed practice of law a felony.

The governor says the new law will help hold individuals accountable if they offer services they are not licensed to provide.

Currently, the unlicensed practice of law constitutes a misdemeanor.

The new law takes effect Nov. 1, 2013.
