Vermont State Police are investigating what caused a fatal car accident in Sherburne, Vermont Friday afternoon.

Police say 47 year old Marland Brewer was traveling west on Rte. 4 in a Dodge pickup truck when he crossed the center line and collided with a Mitsubishi truck driven by 47 year old Earl Smith.

Brewer was pronounced dead at the scene. Smith was airlifted to Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center where he is expected to recover from his injuries.

Officials are investigating if alcohol may have been a factor, and whether Brewer was involved in a separate hit and run crash that took place in the Bristol area earlier that afternoon.

Police ask anyone with information relating to the accidents to call Vermont State Police at the Rutland barracks at (802) 773-9101.
