SCHENECTADY, N.Y. (AP) - The Schenectady Police Department that was the target of a series of corruption cases has launched its own investigation into a party featuring strippers performing for off-duty officers.

The Daily Gazette of Schenectady reports (http://bit.ly/RTXwTh ) that Schenectady Police Chief Chaires says an internal investigation should be wrapped up by early next week at the latest.

The newspaper reports that off-duty officers on the midnight shift hired strippers for a party held last week at a Schenectady bar owned by a retired police officer.

There's no immediate indication that the officers did anything illegal during the party.

Starting in the 1990s, the Schenectady Police Department was the focus of a string of lawsuits, prosecutions and corruption investigations involving several officers and even a former chief who served prison time for cocaine trafficking.
