Just before 2:00pm Saturday, skier Scott Barbarossa called 911 to report he and his 11 year old son were lost after skiing off the trail at Pico Mountain in Vermont.

Rescuers were able to stay in contact with Barbarossa on his cell phone until around 3:15pm. It was hours before search and rescue teams, the Game Warden, and the Killington Ski Patrol found Barbarossa and his son huddled in a snow cave they created.

Barbarossa and his son were rescued around 10:17pm. Both were uninjured and able to walk out of the woods. They were evaluated by Rutland Regional Ambulance.

Vermont State Police reminds skiers to follow rules set by ski resorts and stay on all marked trails while on the slopes.
