A Texas police officer will be laid to rest in Albany today.

28-year-old Edrees Mukhtar was born in Afghanistan and moved to Cohoes.

He graduated from UAlbany before moving to Texas.

San Antonio news reports say Mukhtar's patrol car lost control on a wet surface.

The car hit a curb, skidded sideways, and then collided head-on with a pickup truck.

Mukhtar will be laid to rest at Evergreen Cemetery on Central Avenue in Albany this afternoon.

A prayer service will be held on Sunday at the mosque on Brandywine Avenue in Schenectady.
