SCHENECTADY--A police car staked out in front of 847 Eastern Avenue isn't unusual this week say the people who call the four family house home.
"Not surprised just scary, scary," explains Brian Rodriguez, a father of two who rents an apartment on the ground floor.
Thursday evening, after reports of children crying, investigators found the body of a young woman. It's unclear, as of now, how exactly she died. The medical examiner ruled the cause of death inconclusive and is awaiting results from the toxicology report.
"It's just crazy. You come home from work and find neighbors (dead) in their own home," says Rodriguez.
Two children, an infant and a toddler, were taken from the apartment to Albany Medical Center. Their conditions aren't being released and they are now under the supervision of Schenectady County's Child Protective Services. Investigators won't estimate how long they were alone in the house with the body, presumed to be their mother.
"She was a typical mother--she'd come home, take care of her kids not into anything. She was always with her kids," remembers Rodriguez.
Another apartment inside 847 Eastern Avenue is where police located the man they believe is responsible for the murder of Mary Greco. The 82 year-old retired nun was found killed in her Stanford Street apartment on New Year's Day. The Times Union reports the suspect's name is Michael Briggs. Briggs was taken in on a parole violation and hasn't been charged with Greco's death.
"You are not even safe in your own home...not even safe in your own home," adds Rodriguez.
Briggs was taken into custody January 5th.
