COLONIE - A Troy woman will be heading to prison for setting a fire that killed a dog in Colonie.

Khadijah Hopkins pleaded guilty to burglary and cruelty to animals Friday.

Prosecutors say she broke into an acquaintance's home on Elm Street back in November and stole several items.

Before leaving, they say she set the house on fire.

Firefighters found a dead dog in its crate, inside the burning home.

Hopkins faces 8 years in state prison when she's sentenced in March.
